Maggie

Meet Maggie

Sorrel Mare, 15.3 H, DOB: 2020

Training Level III

Maggie, a 15.3-hand wild mustang, was born in 2020 in the South Steens Herd Management Area (HMA), located in the high desert of southeastern Oregon. Maggie’s striking sorrel coat and flaxen mane reflect the diverse and resilient lineage of the South Steens mustangs, known for their endurance and beauty.

Update October 2024: Now in training at Montgomery Creek Ranch, Maggie has been started under saddle, with about 15 rides under her belt. She is proving to be sensitive, smart, and eager to please, enjoying the attention she receives from handlers. Maggie’s intelligence and gentle nature make her an excellent prospect for a future adopter, and she is already well on her way to becoming a trusted companion.

Maggie was rounded up through a helicopter stampede in  September 2022. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) removed approximately 750 horses during this roundup, which lasted for several days. Sadly, a few horses, including an older pinto mare and two young cremello stallions were euthanized, joining more than 65,000 other wild horses and burros in captivity.
